Expo ’74 World’s Fair – Spokane, Washington
“Preserve the Environment” was the theme of the Spokane, Washington, world’s fair held from May 4 to November 4, 1974. ‘74 was the only U.S. world’s fair held during the American bicentennial era. Spokane is the smallest city ever to hold a world’s fair, which was held along the Spokane River. Spokane still has use of the park, opera house, and exhibition hall created for Expo ‘74. Ironically, attendance at the fair was limited by the nation’s petroleum fuel shortage.
