On May 17th, the New York Stock Exchange celebrated its 200th anniversary, and this stamp was issued to honor the occasion. Originally called the Buttonwood Agreement, the NYSE was founded in 1792 by a group of brokers and dealers in stocks and bonds who met regularly under a tree in Manhattan to conduct business. Today, it is the leading securities marketplace and plays a principal role among the world's financial institutions.
