Union Island is one of the main islands of the St. Vincent Grenadines, which are part of the Windward Islands group. The island is administered by St. Vincent and began issuing stamps in 1976. Many of its stamps are types of St. Vincent, including issues celebrating British monarchs and world leaders, the Worldwide Fund for Nature, paintings, and other fun and popular subjects. Union Island also issues its own vibrant topicals – such as birds, butterflies, Disney, Lunar New Year, and World Cup stamps. Celebrity subjects include Pope John Paul II, Princess Diana, and Elvis. In 2002, Union Island issued a touching “United We Stand” sheetlet of four which highlighted the world’s fight against terrorism.
