The 1945 United Nations Charter reveals the core purpose of nations coming together to form this organization: “We the peoples of the United Nations determined to save succeeding generations from the scourges of war…” U.N. stamps are the only stamps valid for postage which have not been issued by a sovereign nation, making them unique and fascinating to collect. The first stamps of the U.N.’s offices in New York were issued in 1951. U.N. New York stamps are valid only on letters mailed at the U.N. Headquarters building in New York City, whether personal or official correspondence. The U.S. Postal Service, by agreement with the U.N., delivers this mail.
