Only 2 Coins Available!

This coin was minted in 2006 to celebrate Benjamin Franklin’s 300th birthday.  The 90% silver coin depicts Franklin as a young man flying a kite, as he did in his lightning experiments.  The back of the coin shows his famous “Join or Die” political cartoon.  Franklin used image of the cut-up snake to promote colonial unity as a life or death situation.  Surcharges from the sale of this coin went to the Benjamin Franklin Tercentenary Commission.

Self-educated, Franklin was interested in a wide variety of subjects. His experiment while flying a kite during a thunderstorm proved that lightning is electricity. Some of his practical inventions are still in use, like the lightning rod and bifocal eyeglasses.
