U.S. #2454
5¢ Canoe
Transportation Series

Issue Date: October 22, 1991
City: Secaucus, NJ
Quantity: 120,000,000
Printed By: J.W. Fergusson & Sons for Stamp Venturers
Printing Method:
Photogravure
Perforations:
9.8 vertically
Color: Red

Printed on gravure presses instead of intaglio, this stamp had an appearance different from the original version (U.S. #2453). Not only was the gravure image less-clearly defined, but the coated paper used gave the stamp a glossy surface. The typeface was made bolder and was extended, and the design and lettering were printed in red instead of brown.

U.S. #2454 is part of the popular Transportation Series. The Transportation Series contains 59 stamps with engraved designs featuring modes of transportation from the baby buggy to the racecar.
