This stamp was issued in a booklet honoring five gold medal Olympians. 
 
Helene Madison (1913-70) won three gold medals in freestyle swimming in the 1932 Los Angles Olympics. Prior to that, Madison broke sixteen world records in swimming. After the 1932 Olympics, she appeared in two films. Because she was then considered a professional, Madison wasn’t allowed to participate in the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin.
