Reason the stamp was issued:  This stamp was issued to cover the overnight Express Mail rate for mail weighing less than eight ounces.

About the stamp design:  The Express Mail stamp pictures a bald eagle.  The Olympic rings reflects the official sponsor ship of the 1992 Winter and Summer Olympic Games by the US Postal Service.  Artist Ned Seidler produced the artwork for this stamp.

About the printing process:  The Eagle stamp was produced using both offset and intaglio printing.  It was the first US stamp printed using both processes by a company other than the Bureau of Engraving and Printing.

First Day City:  The First Day of Issue ceremony took place on the steps of California’s capitol in Sacramento.  The president of the Los Angeles US Olympic Festival Committee was the main speaker.
