Alice Hamilton was the first woman appointed to Harvard’s faculty as Assistant Professor of Industrial Medicine. Her research exposed many hazards. Hamilton campaigned for ventilation, anti-toxic rinses, and other safeguards that were especially important in aiding the safety of women and children. A member of the International Congress of Women, she was also one of two physicians appointed to the U.S. delegation to the League of Nations Health Commission.
