The eighth sheet of fifteen stamps in the Celebrate the Century Series features subjects from the years 1970-1979.

On June 9, 1973, Secretariat won the Triple Crown of horse racing. At the Kentucky Derby, he set a track record that has not been broken. At the Preakness Stakes, Secretariat started in last place but advanced to win by two and one-half lengths. The third race of the Triple Crown was the Belmont Stakes. Because he was expected to win, betters would only win 20¢ on a $2 bet. This exceptional horse set a record for one and one-half miles on a dirt track that has not been broken.
