Is Your Collection Missing the Butterfly Stamps?
Get All the Stamps Issued Through 2019
The Butterfly series was introduced in 2010 for “non-machineable” envelopes – those that couldn’t be sorted on the USPS’s automated equipment. This includes many greeting card envelopes as well as those that are oddly shaped, vertical, lumpy, rigid, or have clasps, ribbons or buttons on them. In producing these stamps, the USPS has worked with the Greeting Card Association, which has in turn encouraged its members to print a butterfly silhouette on the envelopes of cards that require this additional postage.
Each of the stamps in the series features a realistic image of a different butterfly found in the United States. They picture the monarch, Baltimore checkerspot, spicebush swallowtail, great spangled fritillary, eastern tiger swallowtail, eastern tailed-blue, and California dogface butterflies.
