About the Sesame Street set:  In 2019, Sesame Street – everyone’s favorite educational and playful children’s television show – celebrated its 50th anniversary.  To commemorate the occasion, the USPS issued 16 new Forever stamps picturing different characters from the show:  Big Bird, Ernie, Bert, Cookie Monster, Rosita, The Count, Oscar the Grouch, Abby Cadabby, Herry Monster, Julia, Guy Smiley, Snuffleupagus, Elmo, Telly, Grover, and Zoe.  The back of the pane of 16 pictures the official Sesame Street 50th anniversary artwork.

History the stamp represents:  One of Sesame Street’s first and best-loved residents is Grover.  He is playful and energetic and loves learning about new friends.  Grover is also one of the most hardworking monsters on Sesame Street, having many jobs to do including restaurant server, superhero, and more.

Grover, Sesame Street’s sociable blue monster, accomplishes his tasks with a childlike exuberance that has been making young viewers laugh for more than four decades.  He displays seemingly endless confidence, curiosity, and perseverance.  He is eager to explore new things and start new adventures, even when he inevitably takes a few wrong turns along the way.

No matter what, Grover is always there for his friends, using his heroic qualities to come to the rescue of those in need.  This is evident in Grover’s alter ego, “Super Grover 2.0,” a STEM-inspired superhero who observes, investigates, and reports as he (sometimes literally) stumbles across scientific solutions to everyday problems.

From the youngest guests to the oldest, Grover makes everyone feel happy and at ease when he is around.  And he knows just what to say to make someone laugh or feel better when they are sad.  Grover helps us all realize that being kind and being true to yourself is what matters most.
