Espresso and espresso drinks have become some of the most popular types of coffee in the world.  Many people think espresso is a special type of coffee bean, but it is actually the name for the method of brewing the drink.

While espresso is the most common way to make coffee in much of Europe, the drink originated in Italy.  In fact, in Italian espresso simply translates to expressed.  This speaks to the way the coffee is extracted from the beans – with boiling water forced through a fine grind under high pressure.  The method creates a rich, thick coffee with a high concentration of dissolved solids.  It also has what is known as a crema on top.  This is the name for the creamy foam created by the brewing process (made up of natural oils from the coffee beans).

Espresso drinkers are very serious about their coffee.  They have certain views on how an espresso should be brewed to achieve the best taste.  Baristas usually go through special training to learn how to properly brew espresso and make the many other drinks it is used in.  Some of these drinks include caffè latte, cappuccino, caffè macchiato, caffè mocha, flat white, and Americano.

However you enjoy your espresso, it is the perfect way to get your day started.
