First Day City:  The First Day of Issue Ceremony was held at El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, California.

About the Go Beyond set:  Four different stamp designs were issued to coincide with the 2022 release of the movie, Lightyear, starring everyone’s favorite space ranger, Buzz Lightyear.  Each stamp pictures Buzz in a different pose.  All artwork provided by Pixar Animation Studios.  The selvage of the pane of 20 includes a full-body view of Buzz and his iconic green and silver space suit.

History the stamp represents:  Buzz Lightyear first appeared on the big screen in the 1995 film Toy Story.  He starred alongside Sheriff Woody, the favorite cowboy doll of Andy Davis.  Buzz was voiced by Tim Allen and Woody by Tom Hanks.

Buzz and Woody’s friendship started out rocky.  Woody was Andy’s favorite toy until receiving Buzz as a birthday gift.  At first, Buzz believed he was a true “space ranger” rather than a toy.  Woody began to resent Buzz as he became Andy’s new favorite toy.  Andy even redecorated his room from cowboy themed to space themed.

Woody tried to get rid of Buzz by knocking him behind a desk, but accidentally knocked him out Andy’s window instead.  This led the two toys on an adventure in the outside world.  Woody tried to get them both back to Andy’s room and Buzz tried to return to his home planet.  They faced many obstacles together, including rough handling by Andy’s neighbor, Sid.  Eventually, Buzz realized he was a toy after all, and Woody helped him look forward to a new life.

Buzz and Woody go from enemies to friends, teaching children the dangers of jealousy and judging people too harshly.  After all, you never know who might become your new best friend!
