Constitution Bicentennial Cover Highlights Mason's Objection to Document

Own this cover marking the bicentennial of the US Constitution, the document that framed America’s government. It commemorates the date, October 4, 1787, when George Mason published an article in a Philadelphia paper opposing ratification of the Constitution.  He felt a republic form of government couldn't govern a large nation like the US, only a monachy could.  Eventually Mason voted to ratify the Constitution, but supported a Bill of Rights.

The Richmond, Virginia, postmark pays tribute to the capital of Mason's home state.  The cover features a George Mason stamp (#1858) and a Flag Over the Capitol stamp.

This cover is part of a series issued in honor of the Bicentennial of the Constitution.  Begin your mini-collection of these covers today.
