After defeating the Pittsburgh Pirates in six games during the National League Championship Series, they swept the Oakland Athletics to win the World Series in four games. Oakland had been expected to win, as they’d won the World Series a year before, but the Reds came out on top, scoring a total of 22 runs over Oakland’s eight over the course of the four-game World Series.
