#AC359 – 1/21/1970, First Commercial 747 Flight, First Man on the Moon

Special Event Cover Marks First Commercial Flight of 747 Airplane

The inaugural flight of the 747 Jumbo Jet was scheduled to take place on January 21, 1970.  This cover was postmarked on that date.  Because of technical problems, the Pan Am flight was delayed until the next day.  Over 330 passengers and 20 crew members were aboard that maiden voyage from New York's Kennedy International Airport to London's Heathrow airport.  It marked the beginning of a long history of flights for the Boeing 747s.  This cover is a neat reminder of that first trip.
