Now you can get all four Airmail commemoratives issued in 1959 and save time and money.  #C53, the 7¢ Alaska Statehood stamp marks the admission of the Territory of Alaska to the Union as its 49th state.  This stamp was issued on the date of the President’s proclamation of Alaska as a state.
The 7¢ Jupiter Balloon stamp commemorates the 100th anniversary of the first time airmail was sent the United States – on the hot-air balloon Jupiter.  John Wise flew the balloon from Lafayette to Crawfordsville, Indiana, on August 17, 1859.  There were 123 letters eventually mailed this way, and as of 1980, 23 were still known to exist.
A 7¢ stamp honoring Hawaii Statehood illustrates a Hawaiian warrior extending a lei of welcome.  The 10¢ Pan-American Games stamp marked the opening of the Pan-American Games of 1959 at Chicago, Illinois.  It was issued in the airmail rate to Central and South America for use on such letters headed there.
