A test program began in 1992 for a new kind of variable-rate postage stamp. A Postage and Mailing Center (PMC) machine printed any denomination from 19¢ to $99.99 on the stamp. The customer used the built-in scale to determine the postage needed.
 
This design is similar to CVP31 but is in vertical format, which is how the artist originally intended it to be. A dollar sign is used in place of an asterisk.
