A Little More About Kamala D. Harris...

Kamala Devi Harris took the oath of office as vice president of the United States on January 20, 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California, to immigrant parents – her mother originally from India, her father from British Jamaica. From an early age, Harris faced discrimination due to her Asian-American and African-American heritage. However, this never stopped her, and she went on to graduate from Howard University. She later earned her law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of Law. Harris went on to become district attorney of San Francisco and attorney general of California before being elected to the Senate in 2016. She was the second African American woman and first South Asian American to serve in the US Senate. During her time as a senator, Harris promoted healthcare improvements, stricter regulations on assault weapons, and tax reform. She also was a big advocate for women's rights and minorities' rights. After withdrawing from the 2020 presidential race, Harris was announced as Joe Biden's running mate on August 11. After Biden won the election, Harris became the first female vice president of the United States on January 20, 2021.
