First Day Cover Honors Indomitable Spirit of Ukraine
On August 24, Ukraine issued a new stamp/souvenir sheet titled "Free, Unbreakable, Invincible" in honor of their Independence Day. The general director of Ukraine postal service, Ihor Smilianskyy, said in his announcement for the stamp "This year this day isn't just an additional holiday, but a reminder for the whole world how expensive human freedom is. On August 24, we will have a kind of symbolic date – exactly 6 months since Ukraine was forced again to defend its independence from enemies in the war that actually has been lasting for not half a year, not 8, not 100, and not even 300 years."
The stamp includes a striking image of a Ukrainian soldier accented with colors from the Ukrainian flag. The selvage includes symbols of Ukraine as well as images of its citizens as they endure the ongoing war. It's a reminder that, while battered by the enemy, the spirit of Ukraine remains unbroken and unconquered. This First Day Cover also includes "Free, Unbreakable, Invincible" First Day of Issue postmark as well as a cachet reflecting some of the details in the selvage of the souvenir sheet.
