This Colorano Silk Cover commemorates the launch of the Curiosity Rover aimed toward Mars.  The 2011 Flag stamp is tied to the cover by a Cape Canaveral, Florida, postmark.  The rover was aboard an Atlas 5 rocket when it blasted off from Cape Canaveral. Curiosity was designed to explore the Gale crater on Mars, studying whether it would be possilbe for humans to explore the planet in the future.  It landed on August 26, 2012, for a two-year mission of collecting data about the climate and geology of the crater.  Two months later, its mission was extended indefinitely.
