Highlights:

Colonial Craftsmen (#1456-59) – This group of four se-tenant stamps was issued as part of the American Revolution Bicentennial Series and pictures Colonial craftsmen working at their trade.  Early Jamestown colonists began glass blowing as one of their first industrialization and manufacturing attempts.  Silversmithing began in Boston in the 1600s, and wig making began around 1700.  In 1660, hat making began in Virginia.  The hatter on this issue is rolling a beaver hat.

Mail Order Centennial (#1468) – Aaron Montgomery Ward pioneered the mail order industry in 1872.  This industry has been particularly beneficial in rural and remote areas.

Tom Sawyer (#1470) – This stamp salutes Tom Sawyer, who “lived” along the Mississippi River about 1845.  Created by Mark Twain, Tom represented the typical adventurous American boy.

Stamp Collecting (#1474) – Issued in recognition of a hobby that is both educational and fun – and in response to numerous requests that collectors have a “stamp of their own.”

Wildlife Conservation (#1464-67) – The importance of wildlife conservation is stressed with this block of four.  In the mid-1970s, there were fewer than 20,000 bighorn sheep.  This issue points out that wildlife conservation should be a major concern.
