Ella Fitzgerald – The 30th honoree of the Black Heritage series, Ella Fitzgerald (1917-96) had a pure, ageless voice that spanned three octaves.  During her career, she recorded over 200 albums, won 13 Grammy awards, and sold over forty million albums. 

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow – The most famous American poet of the 19th century, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-82) published his first poem at age 13.  After graduating from college at age 18, he taught at Bowdoin College and Harvard.  He is famous for many poems, including The Village Blacksmith and The Song of Hiawatha.

Settlement of Jamestown – Triangle stamp shows the three ships, Susan Constant, Godspeed, and Discovery that brought English colonists to America in 1607.  Calling their settlement Jamestown, after England’s King James I, the colonists founded the first permanent settlement in the new world.  The first class postage stamp commemorates Jamestown’s 400th anniversary, and honors the colony’s first triangular-shaped fort.

Louis Comfort Tiffany – Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933) is best known for his creations of stained glass windows and lamps.  Early examples of Tiffany’s work include a remarkable chapel interior, exhibited at the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago.  The 2007 U.S. commemorative stamp pictures the Tiffany Studios Magnolias and Irises, designed around 1908.

Gerald R. Ford – Gerald Rudolph Ford (1913-2006), was the 38th President of the United States.  He was born in Omaha, Nebraska, and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  He became President of the United States when Richard Nixon resigned in 1974.  Gerald Ford’s favorite hobby was stamp collecting.
