Honoring America’s Greatest President...

Mystic’s Exclusive Abraham Lincoln
Silver Proof Coin and Mint Stamp Collection

Many Americans believe Abraham Lincoln was our greatest President.  Leading the nation through the Civil War, Lincoln preserved the Union and helped end slavery.  With his tragic assassination just five days after the end of the war, Lincoln became a symbol of the ideals of unity and freedom in the United States.

Issued to honor his 200th birth anniversary, the Abraham Lincoln Silver Proof Coin and Mint Stamp Collection is the perfect tribute to America’s 16th President.  Available exclusively from Mystic, it features:

• Genuine Abraham Lincoln 90% Silver Proof U.S. commemorative coin

• Four uncirculated 2009 Lincoln pennies

• 17 mint stamps

• Mint stamp sheet

• Custom-designed album packed with pictures and little-known stories about this complex man.

Only 500,000 Lincoln Commemorative Coins Issued
Just a Portion Were Silver Proofs

On February 12, 2009, Lincoln’s 200th birthday, the U.S. Mint issued a total of just 500,000 Lincoln commemorative coins in Silver Proof and non-proof conditions.  The U.S. mint has already sold out of its complete stock.

Proof coins are minted to check the coin dies and for archival purposes.  Just looking at the image of the Lincoln Silver Proof coin to the left (weighing just under an ounce), you can tell it’s of the highest quality.  You’ll notice the area of the coin surrounding Lincoln’s head is smooth.  That’s because the dies used to create this coin were treated with a special polish to make the un-engraved areas shine like a mirror.  Plus, the coin was struck at least twice (the coin was impressed onto the die), so the image of Lincoln features extremely fine detail that brings his likeness to life.

Commemorative Coin Captures the Real Lincoln

The front of this Lincoln Silver Proof coin has a surprisingly lifelike quality based on his statue in the Lincoln Memorial.  The statue, which took sculptor Daniel Chester French four years to create, was completed in 1919.  French based his design on Lincoln’s life masks and casts plus photographs by Mathew Brady.  The coin captures President Lincoln’s expression as he faced war, secession and threats on his life, while still hopeful that unity and peace would come.

The back of the coin features the last 43 words of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address with a banner bearing his signature below.  One of the most famous (and most quoted) speeches in U.S. history, Lincoln wrote the Gettysburg Address for the dedication of the Soldiers’ National Cemetery in 1863.  Now called Gettysburg National Cemetery, it was established to provide proper burials for the many thousands of soldiers who lost their lives at the Battle of Gettysburg.  Lincoln’s brief but moving speech encouraged all Americans to honor the sacrifices of the fallen soldiers by committing to preserving the Union and ensuring freedom for all.  Now you can own a lasting tribute to Lincoln and his unforgettable speech on this stunning 90% Silver Proof coin.

Collection Includes Mint Postage Stamps
Honoring President Lincoln

With this exclusive collection, you’ll also receive 17 mint stamps and one mint stamp sheet, each picturing the beloved leader and honoring his place in American history.  Included in the set is U.S. #367 – the first of three 1909 stamps issued to honor the centennial of Lincoln’s birth.  Other stamps you’ll receive are the Emancipation Statue (U.S. #902), Lincoln Credo stamp (#1143), Gettysburg Address (#978), World Stamp Expo ‘89 sheet (#2433) picturing the 1869 Lincoln Pictorial stamp, and many others.

You’ll also get four U.S. stamps issued in early 2009, honoring different periods of Lincoln’s life.  One of these stamps pictures Lincoln as a young lawyer in Illinois.  After leaving his family home in Indiana, Lincoln moved to New Salem, Illinois, a “friendless, uneducated, penniless boy.”  Working as a store clerk, he joined a debating society and gained friends with his outgoing personality, good humor and storytelling.  After his election to the state legislature in 1834, he began a 25-year career as a lawyer.  Earning the nickname “Honest Abe,” he established himself as one of Illinois’ most prominent members of his profession.  The close-up portrait of Lincoln on this stamp is based on an 1858 photograph by Abraham Byers.

Four New Lincoln Pennies –
First Changes to the Penny in 50 Years

Because of Lincoln’s role in history and in honor of his 200th birth anniversary, the U.S. penny was redesigned in 2009 with four reverse images honoring different stages of Lincoln’s life.  One of these coins pictures Lincoln as a young railsplitter.  Growing up in Indiana, Lincoln worked clearing forests and doing farm chores, with little time for formal schooling.  The coin shows Lincoln taking a break from his work to read.  Although no education was provided to him, Lincoln wanted more than the frontier life and taught himself, because he didn’t want to “die and leave [his] Country no better than if [he] had never lived.”

Other pennies in the set pay tribute to Lincoln’s early life – his birth in a one-room log cabin in Kentucky, his professional life in Illinois and his time as President.
