1865-69: Transcontinental Railroad Completed
As the trans-continental railroad nears completion, Wells Fargo ends long distance stagecoach routes. The stagecoaches are now used to transport people and mail between small towns that lack a railroad link. The West continues to boom, even as Indian Wars rage on. Small towns that were once rough mining towns have now evolved into major metropolitan areas with large commercial districts. Wells Fargo also continues to grow, buying up smaller competitors like Holladay Overland. When the transcontinental railroad is completed in 1869, Wells Fargo sells its stagecoach lines.

Why Wells Fargo Covers
are Neat to Own
The Gold Rush prompted monumental events and rapid growth – and this offer makes it easy to select covers that document each important chapter in its history. Plus you can select from your choice of cover conditions, each capturing the atmosphere and romance of the Old West.

Wells Fargo obtained envelopes from the Post Office and applied its own special wood cut logos, which changed over time. Old-time penmanship, back-stamps and routing marks tell each cover’s story – dangerous journeys, dusty mining towns and stagecoach trips through Indian territory. It’s a window into the past like no other!

Pick covers from the years that intrigue you the most. Each cover is encapsulated using the same materials as the Smithsonian so you can touch it with reasonable care without fear of damage. Imagine safely sharing your cover with family and friends. Plus we’ll include a free American Heirloom album page just for your cover. Order with confidence – your satisfaction is guaranteed.

A note on condition: Each cover bears witness to its history. These covers have slight wear – minor stains, mostly due to their age. Holding any of the covers in your hand transports you back in time to the by-gone days of the Gold Rush.
