1865-69: Transcontinental Railroad Completed
As the trans-continental railroad nears completion, Wells Fargo ends long distance stagecoach routes. The stagecoaches are now used to transport people and mail between small towns that lack a railroad link. The West continues to boom, even as Indian Wars rage on. Small towns that were once rough mining towns have now evolved into major metropolitan areas with large commercial districts. Wells Fargo also continues to grow, buying up smaller competitors like Holladay Overland. When the transcontinental railroad is completed in 1869, Wells Fargo sells its stagecoach lines.
