1870-86: Wells Fargo Expands
Wells Fargo continued to grow despite the Indian Wars. In 1874, the company had 606 offices in the West offering a range of services. In 1880, the Post Office tried to stop Wells Fargo from carrying mail. Public protest persuaded the Post Office to end the forced shutdown. Most of these covers traveled by rail, or occasionally stage coach.
