1898 1c, 2c & 5c 1st Bureau Issues stamps paying the registered mail fee and the 5c single Universal Postal Union rate on 1899 registered cover to Lima, Peru.
Stamp canceled on March 6, 1899 in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, by manuscript "X" cancels. The cover was sent by registered mail with New York Exchange Office label tying the three stamps. The cover was not claimed by its intended recipient and was returned to the Registry Branch of the Dead Letter Office. A neat triple-color franking on cover with multiple handstamps on front and reverse demonstrating the cover's troubled path to its final destination.
