Provisional Stamp Chronicles End of Hawaiian Monarchy

Following the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy in 1893, the provisional government was faced with the decision of creating new postage stamps or overprinting old ones.  Not knowing what the future held, they chose the less costly option and overprinted royal portrait stamps.  There were four printings of the provisional stamps and the remaining stocks were destroyed at the end of the year.
Due to incomplete records, the exact number of remaining Hawaii #58 stamps is unknown, but is estimated at a mere 46,350.  And of those, likely many have been used as postage, leaving an unknown amount available in mint condition.  Don’t wait – add this affordable 115-year-old stamp to your collection
