Mint Sheet Commemorates
Elvis Presley’s 75th Birthday

On January 8, 2010, a large crowd of Elvis fans gathered at Graceland to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Elvis Presley’s birth, while countless more honored the occasion around the world.  With snowflakes drifting in the 11-degree weather at Graceland, the crowd gathered on the North Lawn and sang “That’s All Right” – the first single released by Elvis. Also making appearances were members of Elvis’ family including Priscilla, Lisa Marie, and his grandchildren, Benjamin and Riley.

It was just the first of a year’s worth of planned celebrations. The special day was also highlighted by all-day Elvis movie marathons. And in mid-January, an Elvis Presley Tribute Tour began a 25-city journey, with Elvis tribute artists performing the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s greatest hits.

Las Vegas – the scene of so many of Elvis’ greatest concert moments – was to be treated with a special show dedicated to Elvis’ life and music. The famous entertainment company “Cirque du Soleil” presented a live stage show called “Viva ELVIS!”

As the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, it was only proper for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland to honor one of its first members. Elvis was inducted in 1986, along with Ray Charles, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly and other legends. The Hall of Fame presented a new exhibit titled “75 Years of Elvis.” It’s filled with mementos such as the Gibson J-200 guitar that Elvis played in his 1968 Comeback Special.

Elvis had a worldwide audience, and this is highlighted in a 2010 concert tour of Europe. Some of Elvis’ early band members performed on stage with a 16-piece orchestra – and a video projection of Elvis. The tour had stops in England, Ireland, France, Germany, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.
