Invasion of Normandy Pictured on Mint Stamp Sheet
These stamps are reminders of Allied power, ingenuity, and courage. On June 6, 1944, General Eisenhower commanded the Allied invasion of the beaches of Normandy, France. The images on the stamps are from photos taken during the action. They include the amphibious landings and warplanes. The selvage of the sheet pictures General Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force. It also shows a map of the battlegrounds.
