Raoul Wallenberg Hero of WW2
On January 17, 2013, Canada Post issued an international rate self-adhesive stamp to commemorate Sweden’s Raoul Wallenberg. You can own that stamp on a limited-edition First Day Cover. The stamp was issued on the anniversary of Wallenberg's disappearance, designated as Raoul Wallenberg Day in Canada. The background pictures a Schutz-Pass, like the ones that saved the lives of thousands of Hungarians.
In 1944 Wallenberg traveled to Hungary to save Jewish people during the Holocaust. Under the authority of the Swedish government, he distributed certificates of protection, or Schutz-Pass, that kept 100,000 Jews from being deported to concentration camps. At the end of the war, this hero disappeared into Soviet custody and his whereabouts were never determined. Wallenberg was the first person to be granted honorary Canadian citizenship. Own a limited-edition First Day Cover honoring this WWII hero today.
