Mint Stamp Sheet Pictures Prince George

This stamp sheet shows early photos of the future king of the United Kingdom, Prince George of Cambridge.

He was welcomed into the world on July 22, 2013. After months of anticipation, Prince William and Kate snuck past crowds of reporters and well-wishers to enter the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital. Despite unusually warm temperatures, the number of spectators increased throughout the day.

That evening, a formal bulletin was displayed on an easel outside Buckingham Palace, according to custom. It said, “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 4:24 p.m. today. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.” The youngest royal weighed eight pounds and six ounces.

As news of his arrival spread, celebrations erupted outside the hospital and all around the world. The bells of Westminster Abbey rang while landmarks were lit up with blue lights. Gun salutes were given in Bermuda, New Zealand, and Canada. Composer Paul Mealor, who wrote a song for Will and Kate’s wedding, composed a lullaby titled “Sleep On” for the new arrival.

The Duke, Duchess, and Prince of Cambridge left the hospital the next day. The crowds were delighted to catch the first glimpse of the baby. The proud parents were happy to show him off.

While most babies are named before they leave the hospital, the world had to wait for the naming of the future king.  On July 24, it was announced that the new baby was officially George Alexander Louis.
