More About Ifni...

Ifni was a Spanish province on the Atlantic coast of Morocco, south of Agadir, across from the Canary Islands.  Today, the Moroccan province in the same area is named Sidi Ifni.  The islands were discovered by British sea captain William Keeling in 1609.

The first postage stamps of Ifni were issued by Spain in 1941.  The first issues were Spanish stamps overprinted "TERRITORIO DE IFNI," with new designs finally released in 1943.  Ifni released about 10 designs each year until November 1968, when Spain returned Ifni to Morocco.
