Disney Pals visit the Panama Canal
In 1991 Bhutan issued several souvenir sheets picturing Mickey and his pals exploring some of the world's wonders. The sheet offered here pictures Mickey, Mortie, and Ferdie flying over the Panama Canal. Plans to build the canal came out of a need for a quicker route between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. France began construction in 1881, but handed the project over to the U.S. in 1904, who completed it 10 years later. Since then, over 815,000 ships have used the canal.
