Happy 50th Birthday Pluto!

Issued in 1981, this fun Grenada souvenir sheet was issued to honor Pluto's 50th anniversary.  An early version of Pluto first appeared in The Chain Gang in 1930.  He was then named Rover in the Picnic (1930), and finally received his current name in The Moose Hunt (1931).  After appearing in 24 Mickey Mouse films, Pluto got his own series in 1937.

This souvenir sheet pictures a scene from Pueblo Pluto.  In that 1949 short, Pluto travels to the American Southwest with Mickey.  While there, Mickey gives Pluto a buffalo bone, which is quickly taken by a young puppy.  When Pluto gets stuck in a cactus patch the pup helps him and the two become friends.
