More About Namibia...

Namibia is a country in Southern Africa.  It is bordered to the west by the Atlantic Ocean, to the north by Zamibia and Angola, to the east by Botswana, and to the southeast by South Africa. Namibia was once part of South Africa, but gained its independence in March 1990.  It's considered the driest country in sub-Saharan Africa and has been inhabited since pre-history.

Namibia has been delivering mail since 1814, a time in which postal runners delivered messages between mission stations.  The country's first postage stamps were issued during its time as a German colony (then known as German South West Africa).  Its first post office was established in Otjimbingwe in 1888.  When South Africa took over the colony in 1914, they took over the postal service and issued stamps until Namibian independence in 1990.  Namibia started issuing its own stamps the year before, in 1989.
