More About The Bahamas...
As you may know, The Bahamas (officially The Commonwealth of The Bahamas) is a sovereign country in the West Indies of the Atlantic OCean. It is part of the Lucayan Archipelago and is located north of Cuba, northwest of Hispaniola and the Turks and Caicos Islands, southeast of Florida, and east of the Florida Keys.
The first post office in The Bahamas began operation in 1733. The earliest letters are from 1802, with the first handstamp appearing in 1804. The Royal Mail Line began the first regular mail service in 1841, and the first postage stamps followed in April 1858 with the use of British stamps. A year later, the post office of The Bahamas became independent and began issuing its own stamps. There's lots more neat postal history of The Bahamas. Click here to check it out.
