1998 Rainforest
UN Offices in New York
On June 19, 1998, the United Nations released a set of three commemorative stamps and three souvenir sheets to honor the 50th anniversary of the World Health Organization (WHO). This organization’s goal is to preserve the world’s rainforests. The WHO plans to conduct research on the vast quantity of plants in the rainforest, in order to develop better treatments for various illnesses.

Designed by American artist Rick Garcia, these issues feature a jaguar, an orangutan, and an ocelot. The jaguar appears on the 32¢ stamp and the $2.00 souvenir sheet.
