2000 International Flag of Peace
Each year since 1981, the member states of the United Nations have observed an International Day of Peace on the third Tuesday of September. This date coincides with the annual opening of the United Nations General Assembly.

In an effort to promote peace among young people, the U.N. CyberSchoolBus, the U.N. Postal Administration, and the International Olympic Committee sponsored the Peace Flag Project. Young people from all over the world submitted their designs for the World Peace Flag. The winning design, submitted by Mateja Prunk of Slovenia, is pictured on this stamp.
