In 2004, this stamp series focused on the preservation of culture – “the right to preserve and maintain ceremonies and traditions, the right to protect intellectual property, the right to protect lands and the environment, and the right to maintain spiritual ceremonies and sites.”

The artifacts pictured range in age from the Paleolithic Era to modern times.  A variety of geographic areas are represented, as well as many different media and techniques.  One stamp on the sheet from the Offices of New York shows an ancient Greek amphora (urn) with figures of fighters on it.  This would have been created as a prize for the winner of an athletic competition.
