The UN General Assembly proclaimed 2005 as the International Year of Sport and Physical Education.  The aim was to encourage governments and organizations to develop sports programs to promote peace, as well as to improve health and education, and to build bridges between cultures.  In 2004, the UNPA issued a stamp titled “Sport 2005.”  Together with these 2005 designs, the seven stamps form the complete set of the “International Year of Sport” series.
