These stamps are part of a set of three se-tenant blocks of four issued to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, popularly known as the Earth Summit, and the special session of General Assembly to review and appraise the implementation of Agenda 21.
Agenda 21 addresses the environmental problems facing our world with 2,500 recommendations for action. These proposals contain details on: how to combat poverty and change patterns of production and consumption; demographic dynamics; conserving and managing our natural resources; protecting the atmosphere; oceans and biodiversity; preventing deforestation; and promoting sustainable agriculture, among others.
