2000 Endangered Species
The eighth installment of the Endangered Species series, which began in 1993, was issued April 6, 2000. These 12 stamps feature an international array of flora and fauna whose existence is threatened.
The F.s. 0,90 stamps show the hippopotamus, Coscoroba swan, emerald monitor/goanna, and sea otter. Sudden droughts, conflict with man, and poaching have taken their toll on the Hippo population in its habitat of sub-Saharan Africa. These herbivorous animals can weigh three tons or more.
