2020 World Heritage Sites Showcase Russia's History
On September 11, 2020, the United Nations Postal Administration issued another set of six stamps picturing UNESCO World Heritage Sites. That year, sites in the Russian Federation were featured.
The 1fr stamp, issued by the Geneva UN office, pictures Kazan kremlin or fortress. The original buildings date back to the 10th century. Many of the religious and historical buildings were destroyed during the years of the Soviet Union, and the oldest remaining building was constructed in the 16th century. The kremlin was added to the World Heritage Sites list in 2000.
The 1.50fr stamp shows St. Petersburg. Russia’s second largest city, it was the capital city of Imperial Russia. It was founded in the 18th century by Tsar Peter the Great. The stamp features the Winter Palace and Alexander Column.
