1998 The Universal Declaration
of Human Rights

UN Offices in Vienna
On October 27, 1998, the United Nations issued a set of six commemorative stamps to recognize the fiftieth anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

This declaration, set forth on December 10, 1948, provided a set of rights that each one of us has as citizens of the world. The principles all work toward a common goal of equality, regardless of race, gender, or nationality.

The stamps serve not only to recognize the steps we have taken toward these ends, but also call attention to the work that still has to be done before common human rights abuses are ended.
