It's Now or Never
Elvis entered the recording studio in 1960 for the first recording session following his Army discharge. A string of hits had given him the confidence to try crooning ballads again, and he picked “It’s Now or Never.” The song was based on the Mario Lanza hit “O Sole Mio.” Elvis had the idea for the song while he was stationed in Germany, and songwriters Aaron Schroeder and Wally Gold wrote the new lyrics.
Twenty-two million copies sold worldwide as the single spent 20 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at number one. It was Elvis’ bestselling single ever and it reached gold status in April 1983.
