Born in Beaver, Utah, Philo T. Farnsworth (1906-1971) devised a method for creating electronic television. He created a television camera tube in 1927 called an image dissector. The image dissector produced an electronic signal that corresponded to the brightness of objects being televised. This little-known American inventor was one of the most important pioneers in television technology. In his later life, Farnsworth became involved in research on radar and nuclear energy.
