California is known for its ideal grape growing conditions and high-quality wines.  One of the top wine regions is the Edna Valley.  It is located on the edge of the Santa Lucia Mountains, just a few miles from the Pacific Ocean.

What makes the Edna Valley so perfect for growing wine grapes is the cool Pacific Ocean breeze and the well-draining volcanic soil.  Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Syrah are the Edna Valley’s best varieties.

There are about 30 wineries in the Edna Valley, each one taking advantage of the region’s unique climate.  The marine air brings thick fog in the morning and clear skies by afternoon.  Because the valley is between several small mountains, it receives just the right amount of moisture and not too much sun.  All this allows the grapes to ripen slowly, which helps give their wines a fuller flavor and nice structure.  The Edna Valley has one of the longest growing seasons in the United States due to its mild weather throughout the year.

Because of its warm temperatures and beautiful mountain scenery, the Edna Valley is a popular place to visit.  People come for the wine and stay for the spectacular views.  It is a place unlike any other in the country.
