Own this cover marking the bicentennial of the Constitution, the document that framed America’s government. It commemorates the part Benjamin Franklin played in the convention. During the debate over whether to pay the executive (the role of President hadn't been defined yet), Franklin wrote a paper expressing his views. To ill to read the paper, he chose James Wilson to read it for him.
The Philadephia, Pennsylvania, postmark pays tribute to the city where the Constitutional Convention was held and where Franklin spent much of his time. The cover features a Franklin stamp from the Liberty Series (#1030) and a Flag Over the Capitol stamp. The cachet (image on the Cover) shows a portrait from Franklin from a painting at the National Portrait Studio.
